Last year, our Charity submitted an application to be considered for the Hawaiian Group's Neighbourhood Champions Program. Since then we have been notified that the 2025  nomination process was highly competitive, with a high number of applications received. The submissions covered a wide range of themes, from Poverty Alleviation to Arts & Culture and Environmental initiatives, providing valuable insights into the issues that matter most to our communities.

After an extensive review and voting process, Hawaiian Group announced that Padbury Community Garden Inc. has been chosen as Hawaiian’s Hillarys 2025 runner-up winner for their 2025 community grants program.

Subsequently, PCG have been awarded a grant of $1,000, to further support the important work our Charity undertakes in the community.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Hawaiian Group and Hawaiian Group's Neighbourhood Champions Program for supporting the community via this funding opportunity.

We would also like to pass on our congratulations to our partner Charity, ZaZa's Legacy for being awarded a grant in this program as well.

Thank you to our valued PCG member, and regular volunteer, at the community garden, Dayle, for sharing this funding opportunity with the Committee.

If you find a funding opportunity that fits the Padbury Community Garden Inc. aims and purposes, please share it with the Committee at padburycommunitygarden@gmail.com

In case you missed it, did you know that the wonderful Trevor Cochrane and lovely team from Guru Productions visited us at the community garden a few weeks back! How crazy is that!?!? Yep, we had to pinch ourselves too!!

Thanks to our Charity’s ongoing partnership with the Act Belong Commit Campaign through Mentally Healthy WA, since November 2023, we were recommended for the opportunity by the organisation’s Marketing Officer, Lynne. We are so grateful and honoured to have been put forward for this opportunity - thank you Lynne.

The morning filming was filled with fun and laughter, no stress like we thought it may be. The crew at Guru Productions and Trevor made us all feel so comfortable. Trevor had so much valuable knowledge to share with us, from his years of gardening in Perth and all around the world. His humble and friendly demeanour made our whole crew feel like we’d know him forever by the end of the session, like saying farewell to an old friend. We hope they’ll all be back some time in the future, either in a personal or professional capacity, as we thoroughly enjoyed their company.

Our segment for Destination WA aired on Sunday 15 March 2026 and can be viewed below.

Then the segment for The Garden Gurus aired this afternoon (Saturday 28 March 2026) and can be viewed below.

However, the whole episode is worth a watch as our learning with growing corn in two different soils is shown earlier in the episode https://www.9now.com.au/the-garden-gurus/season-40/episode-4

Through our naturally evolving partnership with ZaZa’s Legacy - Choking Prevention Australia, our Charities have combined forces to create the ‘Garden to Kitchen’ Program. We have started it small, with breakfast cook-ups following Sunday Garden Gatherings, using donated home-grown local produce and produce from the community garden. We are hoping to expand the program, to incorporate multi-cultural cooking, adding more sessions with additional inclusive options to access the sessions, more diverse sessions to accommodate varied age groups and the inclusion of additional activities to enhance the program. This is all funding dependent, so watch this space….

Here is a recap of a few of the sessions of the ‘Garden to Kitchen’ Program we have held so far, unfunded style!

If you've been contemplating popping down to the garden to join us, now it would love you to join us for our Garden Gatherings and Garden to Kitchen Program... the more the merrier!

At Padbury Community Garden Inc., we’re always thrilled to see new life take root—whether it’s a seedling pushing through the soil, a new volunteer joining our gatherings, or the kind of generosity that strengthens our whole community.

We're excited to share that Padbury's well-known Jarrod O’Neil from The Agency has donated $500 toward the purchase of a magnificent mango tree for the community garden. Jarrod's generosity will contribute to the garden's expansion and enhance the community's capacity to share knowledge about fruit tree planting, sustainable and healthy living, and tree maintenance, eventually resulting in delicious, healthy produce and much-needed shade.

Mango trees aren't just extremely popular, they're long‑living, resilient, and productive. Much like community gardens themselves, they take time, care, and support to thrive. A mango tree will give back to the PCG community for decades to come, offering delicious and nutritious fruit, beauty, shade and a reminder of what generosity can grow.

We are certainly looking forward to seeing Jarrod at the community garden soon, however, given the impressive mango tree that PCG will be able to purchase with Jarrod's generous donation, he'll definitely need to bring a bigger spade to help us get that tree planted 😉!!!

From all of us at Padbury Community Garden Inc., thank you for supporting our Charity, community garden, and our community as they continue to thrive 🌳🥭💚 We look forward to sharing photos of the new tree's purchase, planting and progress!

If you'd like to get involved, drop us an email on padburycommunitygarden@gmail.com, register to attend a Garden Gathering or Busy Bee, or simply pop in to have a wander around at the community garden any day... there's always something blooming or growing.

Should you or your business/company have the capacity to provide some level of support to PCG, just as Jarrod has, don't forget that PCG is a Charity endorsed by the ATO as a deductible gift recipient. Therefore, donations of $2 or greater are tax-deductible 👌🏼 Why not donate locally, to benefit the local community you live in.
